Special Activities

Sun, April 23, 2017

12-1pm: Museum exhibits
1pm: Performance
1:45-2:30pm: Create-A-Puppet Workshops

Guests will be welcomed by staff members who have been trained in interactions with patrons with ASD.

Performance alterations include theater lights dimmed down but not out, consistent sound levels and lower volume of show soundtrack, freedom for children to talk and to leave their seat if necessary, a quiet zone in the lobby, and permission to bring quiet, contained snacks and beverages. Create-A-Puppet Workshop classrooms will be brighter, quieter, and feature less-messy puppet building materials and slightly simplified puppet designs. This modified programming also extends to include our expanded Museum, where lighting will be adjusted and specialized educational activities (such as touch tables and guided storytelling) will be integrated.

Educational Resources

We planning a whole series of special weekend events to celebrate our world puppet premiere of Pete the Cat.  Watch this space for updates!

Pete the Cat Book Signing: Saturday - April 8, 1:30pm - 3:00pm

Learn to Build a Robo Pete - Sat, April 15, 11am-2pm

Hello Robo is coming to the Center! Their mission is to make personal robotics more accessible and affordable for everyone. They will have their own robots on display that can interact with patrons. They'll show kids how to build a Robo Pete of their very own, just like the one Pete builds in our production. The Robo Pete robot can be made with materials that are inexpensive and easy to order online and it'll look just like Pete's!

Skate Along with Pete - Sat, April 29, 11am-2pm

Pete the Cat loves to ride his skateboard. Check out this "ride" on a 4-inch scaled-down replica of a skateboard called a Fingerboard. Fingerboard experts will be at the Center using their hands to perform an array of dazzling tricks inspired by real skateboarding. Kids will be able to try some boards out for themselves. Join us and enter a drawing to win Fingerboards of your very own to take home!
