What if you were to suddenly lose the one cherished item you held close when you were forced to leave your home? For countless immigrant children, that treasured possession often happens to be their beloved comfort stuffed animal or cherished toy. A neighborhood in Decatur exemplifies the extraordinary power of a community united in empathy and support. For these immigrant children, that one item embodies their solace and security, their beloved comfort stuffed animal or cherished toy.
In collaboration with Flux Projects, Decatur Arts Alliance, and MARTA Artbound, the Center for Puppetry Arts extends a heartfelt invitation to the entire Atlanta community to join Little Amal. We invite families to participate in this enriching free event, where we embark on a journey alongside Amal, starting from the MARTA Station in Decatur and concluding at the vibrant Decatur Square. This event is more than just a walk; it’s a profound display of solidarity with Little Amal. Our beloved companions will not only join us on the walk but also symbolize the love, hope, and unity that binds our diverse community together.

Little Amal is the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk. She has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees.
Since July 2021, Amal has traveled over 6,000 miles to 97 towns and cities in 15 countries and has been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online. Her journeys are festivals of art and hope that draws attention to the huge numbers of children fleeing war, violence, and persecution, each with their own story. Her urgent message to the world is “Don’t forget about us”.
Between 7 September and 5 November 2023, Amal is journeying 6,000 miles across the United States in one of the largest free public festivals ever created. More than 35 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 1,000+ artists and arts organizations will create 100+ free public events to welcome her.
