So you want to be an XPT project director?
For more than 40 years, XPT (Xperimental Puppetry Theater) has provided a platform for artists to take creative risks, test new ideas, and push the boundaries of puppet theater. Each spring, dozens of emerging and established artists come together to create original short works, which are then presented as part of a dynamic weekend festival celebrating innovation, experimentation, and artistic discovery.
XPT offers artists the opportunity to develop bold, unconventional, and surprising new performance pieces, resulting in a one-of-a-kind showcase that has inspired audiences for generations.
Interested in participating? Join current and former XPT directors and past participants for an inside look at the process. Learn what makes a successful XPT project, gain practical guidance for developing your concept, and discover the tools, resources, and insights that can help transform an idea into a compelling experimental puppet performance. Whether you're a first-time creator or a seasoned artist, you'll leave better prepared to bring your vision to life.
