Center for Puppetry Arts Presents 16th Season of
The Ghastly Dreadfuls
Spooky Season is Officially Here with the Return of The Ghastly Dreadfuls!
This Atlanta tradition is back for its 16th season with new and old favorites including Le Petit Vampyr
ATLANTA (October 2022) – From the ominous whistle of the ghost train to the raucous vaudevillian humor of graveyard soirees from the Dance Macabre, The Ghastly Dreadfuls are back and better than ever to entertain with their bone-chilling vignettes, frightful songs, and devilish dances.
Since its 2006 debut by the Center’s Artistic Director Jon Ludwig and Jason Hines, The Ghastly Dreadfuls has won many accolades such as the 2012 UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence Award and the 2013 Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical. The Ghastly Dreadfuls effortlessly blends live music, original songs and stories, and intricate puppetry to make this beloved Atlanta cult classic a must-see event to add to your October festivities.
The magic of The Ghastly Dreadfuls is owed to its eight talented performers – all of who play instruments, sing, dance, act, and operate the puppets, which will transport you to the imaginal realm of the terrifying in-between of the living and the dead— where eerie mists and haunting noises create a hair-raising atmosphere. Of the fifteen tales and songs within the show, you can expect to find fan favorites such as Le Petit Vampyr, The Girl in the New Dress, The 11:59, and The Deep End of the Pool. This year, the spooks get even scarier with the introduction of new spirits, who are just dying to join the Dreadful’s graveyard.
Speaking of the welcoming of the two new ghosts, one of the mysterious Dreadfuls said:
“Once again, the Ghastly Dreadfuls return for their annual Halloween romp, which will include classic favorites, some not seen for some time like The Ghost on the Trapeze. The big news is that there will be a new Dreadful! We are waiting for this ghost to materialize before we introduce them to the public fully. Be assured, they will be Ghastly!” – Simply Dreadful
Performances are Wednesday through Sunday, October 12-29, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 and include entry to the performance and Worlds of Puppetry Museum, which opens at 7 p.m. During intermission, guests can consume their own “spirits” with a pumpkin ale, a witchy beverage, or other wine and beer options of their choosing at the pop-up bar in the atrium. The Ghastly Dreadfuls is recommended for ages 18 and up. Tickets can be purchased at www.puppet.org or by calling 404.873.3391.
