Overhire Electrician

SUMMARY

The Center for Puppetry Arts is accepting resumes to fill its ever-growing list of electricians for part-time opportunities on an as-needed basis. Overhire work generally involves striking, hanging, cabling, and focusing lighting instruments. Specific duties are outlined by the Master Electrician during the planning process to fill specific needs.  


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Load-ins, changeovers, and strikes of productions and events
  • Hanging, cabling, and focusing lighting instruments, both conventional and LED.
  • Organizing and putting away lighting equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Working on and manipulating ladders up to 17-feet.
  • Lifting and carrying fifty pounds regularly.
  • Carrying heavy objects up and down ladders.
  • Standing for long periods of time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of formal theater education or professional experience.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving.
  • Responsibility and adherence to best practices.
  • Team-oriented attitude.
  • Patience and composure.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret a light plot.
  • Ability to hang, cable, and focus lighting instruments in a dead-hung space from atop a ladder.
  • Knowledge of the components of lighting instruments and their accessories, how they work, and how to manipulate them.
  • Working knowledge of wiring, cable types, and their purpose.
  • Ability to troubleshoot faulty instruments.

PAY

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. The hourly rates range from $16 to $18 based on experience.
