Explore Xperimental Puppetry Theatre (XPT)
Join us for a free virtual webinar via ZOOM to learn more about our Xperimental Puppetry Theatre (XPT) program. Hosted by XPT Program Director Frances Chang and Assistant Program Director Lee Bryan, this session will give you an inside look at the creativity and innovation behind XPT.
The webinar will feature a 60-minute screening of past XPT performances, followed by a panel discussion and live Q&A. Whether you’re a prospective project director or simply curious about the program, this is a unique opportunity to discover how XPT inspires bold new work in puppetry.
This event is completely free and open to anyone interested in learning more about the program and the application process.

Individuals can participate in Xperimental Puppetry Theater (XPT) as either Individual Members or Project Directors. Individual Members contribute to existing projects as performers or designers, while Project Directors lead the creation of original puppetry works for adult audiences. Both roles offer collaboration opportunities and skill development. Applications are due by January 27, 2026, leading to a structured development process and public performances in April-May 2026.
To become a Project Director in the Xperimental Puppetry Theater (XPT), submit your application by 12:00 AM on December 21, 2025. Directors create original puppetry works for adult audiences, limited to ten minutes. Proposals should include visuals and a summary, and selected directors can receive up to $450 in funding. As part of the selection process, Project Directors will also interview with the XPT Program Director. Applicants will be notified of project application status by January 20, 2026. Design, construction and rehearsal periods follow, culminating in public performances April – May 2026 in the Center for Puppetry Arts’ Vince Anthony Founder’s Theater.
