Live, Dynamic & Interactive!
Learn about folktales and how cultures around the world tell the same story in different ways by examining the story of The Gingerbread Boy through pictures and movement exercises. Versions of the story are compared from selected books, including Jan Brett’s Gingerbread Baby, Ying Chang Compestine’s The Runaway Rice Cake, Sandi Takayama’s The Musubi Man, and more. Explore where the ingredients in gingerbread come from and how they come together to be delicious, and watch The Gingerbread Boy come to life through a brilliantly-colored shadow puppet short film.Â
Plus, everyone gets to learn about how shadow puppets work, see a real puppet from the Center’s collection – and build their very own Gingerbread Boy shadow puppet during the workshop!Â
