Learn about the history and culture of Mexico and examine the evolution of cultural expression through the art of the mask. Explore ancient Aztec civilization, the Spanish influence brought to the region after the landing of Cortés, and the meanings behind the design of the flag of Mexico. Review ancient pictographs of animals indigenous to the New World and discuss the modern holiday, Día de los Muertos.

Puppet Activity: 3-D Paper Eagle Mask 

You will receive a study guide containing the puppet template to print and cut out along with a list of puppet-making materials each student will need to build the puppet during the workshop.

These materials are easy-to-find, low-cost items that can often be found in the classroom. The study guide also includes optional classroom activities you can choose to incorporate into your lesson plan either before or after seeing the program. (These optional classroom activities are different from the activities included by our instructor in the virtual program.) Additional study guide contents include suggested online and library resources regarding the program topic and a list of academic standards supported by this program.

Sara started her career at the Center in 2000, after receiving her degree in Education. Her first position was in the Education department, where she was able to combine her passion for the arts, as well as her love for teaching. Throughout her time at the Center, Sara took on many different roles, settling in the Digital Learning Department. In 2016, she became the department’s director and has continued to expand its award-winning programming. Digital Learning is currently in all 50 states and 88 countries.

Who can participate in a Digital Learning program?

We use the cloud-based Zoom platform to present our programming, so anyone with access to the internet can connect with us.

What is your cancellation policy?

We don’t charge for program cancellations due to weather; however, we do require that they be rescheduled. The full fee will be charged for cancellations made with less than 48-hour notice and for “NO SHOWS.” Foreign language programs require a 2-week cancelation notice.

What is your discount policy?

Book 9 programs and your 10th program is FREE. This applies to hands-on, curriculum-based workshops ONLY (not puppet shows).
