Prepare for Your Visit
Once you’ve booked your visit, there are some helpful tips to help make the most of your trip.
Before You Book
Important Tips for Field Trips
Before booking your visit to the Center for Puppetry Arts, it’s important to know some key facts about what we offer, and it’s helpful for us to know some key facts about you and your group as well!
- Many events sell out early. Purchasing in advance is always highly recommended.
- Be prepared to know which activities you would like to book, your preferred date(s) and time(s) you would like to attend, and your approximate group size.
- All guests who enter, including parents, chaperones, and bus drivers, must have a ticket, ticket voucher, or proof of membership.
- All guests ages two (2) and up are required to have a ticket.
- The Center for Puppetry Arts does not issue refunds on unused tickets but may offer rainchecks.
- Our Theater, Workshop, Museum, and Lunchroom spaces vary in size and capacity, and larger groups may be broken into smaller segments to ensure a safe and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
- The Lunchroom Rental Space must be booked in advance and is subject to availability.
- Our Playground is available as weather permits. Adult Supervision is required.
- To best accommodate persons with disabilities, please notify the Ticket Sales Office in advance.
- Be prepared with which activities you want to book, the date and time you wish to attend, and the number of seats needed.
- Theater and classroom sizes vary. Large groups may be broken into segments.
*TITLE 1 SCHOOLS: All Title 1 Schools must provide a copy of their certification to receive our Title 1 rate.
*TAX EXEMPT GROUPS: Tax-exempt groups must provide a letter from the Georgia Dept of Revenue, Sales and U.S. Tax Division certifying the tax exemption. Orders not accompanied by the appropriate tax-exempt letter will be returned for complete payment.
Parents & Chaperones
All Who Enter (Chaperones and Bus Drivers) Must Have a Ticket.
When in accordance with specific school and group policy, we always suggest that parents book ahead to contact the school/group.
This helps secure your ticket and ensure that you are signed up to share the same experience as your student (plus you get the group rate!).
If you aren’t able to book with the group, we still recommend that you purchase an Individual Ticket ahead of time, as our performances are known to sell out.
Parents and chaperones are encouraged to join in on the fun to help facilitate a great time for their students. Lending a helping hand in the Create-A-Puppet Workshop, laughing along with the Performances, or leading a troop on a Scavenger Hunt through our Museum Galleries are all great ways to foster the experience for your students while having a great time yourself.
We provide FREE, LIMITED PARKING, but school bus riding, carpooling, and public transportation are always encouraged.
Arrivals & Facilities
Learn More About our Arrival, Parking, and Other Facility Policies
- ARRIVAL: Upon arrival, we ask that a designated lead provide an accurate, total headcount for your entire group. This total should include students and adults paid for by the group, but should not include anyone who has purchased a separate, individual ticket directly from The Center for Puppetry Arts. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your first activity’s start time to ensure a timely check-in. *Groups who anticipate a late arrival should contact the Center for Puppetry Arts at 404.873. 3391 to keep us informed of your travels.
- PARKING & BUSES: Our entrance is located off 18th Street, and we provide FREE on-site parking, with a limited number of spaces available. Buses, Motorcoaches, and most oversized vehicles can be accommodated, as space permits. Whenever possible, Staff will be present in the parking lot to help guide your vehicle through our parking lot for safe and efficient unloading and loading. Groups who may need to return to their buses by a certain time should communicate with our Staff to ensure a timely return home. We encourage all groups to remain in contact with their transportation provider and keep them informed of their schedule as necessary.
- PLAYGROUND: Stretch your legs if the weather permits. Adult supervision is required.
- LUNCHROOM: Lunchroom space must be booked prior to arrival due to limited capacity. We do not offer on-site food services, and groups who have booked lunchrooms are expected to provide their own lunches. Prior to arrival, we ask that groups consolidate and label lunches as much as possible. Groups are responsible for unloading and loading their lunches from buses, and from there, our Staff will ensure that lunches make it safely to and from our lunchroom. If your group would like to order lunch for delivery, we ask that you please inform us prior to your arrival.
- PERFORMANCES: Out of respect for our individual patrons, other visiting groups, our performers, and Staff, scheduled performances will only be held for late arrivals a maximum of 5 minutes. In the event of a late arrival, we will adjust group schedules to accommodate as much as possible. The Center for Puppetry Arts reserves the right to provide rainchecks and ticket vouchers on a case-by-case basis, and future performance prices and availability are subject to change.
- WORKSHOPS: The interactive Create-A-Puppet Workshop™ is prepared as an hour-long experience but can be adjusted to better fit a group’s schedule as needed. To-Go Kits can also be provided to accommodate schedules as necessary. Our educational classroom sizes have a limited capacity, and some groups may be asked to split to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Students, Teachers, and designated Chaperones are given priority entry to the taught workshop and may be asked to help guide students through the Create-A-Puppet Workshop™.
- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: During your visit, groups will often be sharing our space with individual patrons and other visiting groups. For your safety and the safety of others, groups may be asked to move to or wait in certain areas to help with the flow of traffic throughout our building. Restrooms are available on each floor of our building, but space is limited, and groups will be asked to take turns. Groups visiting our Worlds of Puppetry Galleries are encouraged to participate in our Scavenger Hunt, and group prizes are subject to availability.

The Center for Puppetry Arts is proud to announce the next slate of sensory-friendly programming to occur during its 2018-19 season. These modifications of the Center’s regular programming will allow guests with Autism Spectrum Disorder to experience sensory-friendly Family Series performances, Create-A-Puppet Workshops, and the Worlds of Puppetry Museum. Guests will be welcomed by staff members who have been trained in interactions with patrons with ASD.
Performance alterations include theater lights dimmed down but not out, consistent sound levels and lower volume of show soundtrack, freedom for children to talk and to leave their seat if necessary, a quiet zone in the lobby, and permission to bring quiet, contained beverages and snacks (peanut-free snacks). Create-A-Puppet Workshop classrooms will be brighter, quieter, and feature less-messy puppet building materials and slightly simplified puppet designs. This modified programming also extends to include our expanded Museum, where lighting will be adjusted and specialized educational activities (such as touch tables and guided storytelling) will be integrated. Fidget toys, social stories, sound-reducing headphone, and sunglasses are also available.
Members can use their ticket vouchers toward group tickets but must call the Ticket Sales Office at least 72-hours in advance.* Members may also receive priority seating for performances when tickets are purchased at least 45-minutes prior to showtime.* *Subject to availability.
