Production Manager
SUMMARY
The Center for Puppetry Arts is accepting resumes for the position of Production Manager. The Production Manager facilitates all technical efforts by the Production Department in the realization of theatrical productions, special events and cross-departmental collaborations at the Center for Puppetry Arts. Position requires good organizational and problem-solving skills, working knowledge of all technical aspects of theater, and ability to function as a part of a tight knit team of professionals. Responsibilities include calendar management, interdepartmental communications, production overhire supervision, expense reconciliation, coordination of technical needs for guest artists, as well as hands-on technical work assisting Scene Shop and Electrics staff.

- Resident Puppet Builder and Puppet Shop Manager
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consult on season schedules, identifying and detailing the technical needs of initiatives as requested
- Generate and distribute calendars for design deadlines, build periods, load-in/strikes, etc.
- Manage space usage for theaters, scene shop, rehearsal hall, etc.
- Schedule and conduct production and design meetings for upcoming productions and special projects
- Attend design meetings, production meetings, and tech notes sessions.
- Attend rehearsal as needed.
- Review rehearsal/performance reports and conduct daily meetings during rehearsal periods to address any needs/concerns quickly and appropriately
- Coordinate needs and facilitate load in of traveling companies as needed
- Manage technical staff schedule
- Track and manage expenditures by production department staff
- Verify production department and over hire timecards
- Process new over hires in payroll system, verify documentation and work eligibility
- Process injury reports and submit to HR
- Oversee the technical shops (Scenic, Electrics, and Puppet)
- Oversee construction of Center productions and special projects, insuring the timely and safe manufacture and installation of all technical elements
- Oversee load-in and tech week as well as the timely removal/storage of Center productions
- Oversee general safety and compliance with all safety regulations in relation to the Production Department
- Oversee the maintenance of production department’s tools, equipment and spaces
- Oversee the maintenance of the warehouse and accommodate all storage needs of Center Production Department.
- When necessary, provide technical support for nonproduction-related needs including in-house functions, parties, special events, fundraisers, etc.
- Consult with facilities, education, and marketing departments on materials and methods for their projects
- Collaborate with Facilities Manager regarding facilities safety; consult with outside contractors and project managers as needed
- Help to administrate the policies and regulations of the Center for Puppetry Arts
- Act as part of the emergency response of the Center
- Other duties as assigned
- Schedule requires some evening and weekend work, including holidays
- Design opportunities may become available but are not the focus of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods
- Ability to move around theater and shops for inspections and reviews
- Ability to climb and work on ladders (up to 17’)
- Able to lift 50lb
QUALIFICATIONS
- MFA in Technical Theatre or similar. Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience also acceptable
- Motivated and responsible
- Team-oriented attitude
- Knowledge of theatrical operations
- Available to work some nights, weekends, and possibly holidays
DESIRED SKILLS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Sharepoint, Vectorworks
- Skills in crew management and scheduling; problem solving
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Additional skills or experience with theatrical lighting, audio, video, and computer network systems (EOS, Dante, NDI, OSC, MIDI, MacOS, Qlab, etc.) desired
EMPLOYMENT STATUS
AND PAY
Full-time, Salary (exempt) position. Non-remote.
$48,000 to $52,000 per year commensurate with experience
